What is SOBR?

Students of Brain Research, or SOBR, was formed in 2011 in an effort to connect graduate students and early career researchers in the fields of neuroscience and brain research from across Melbourne. In its first year SOBR hosted a lunch event / networking evening, an interdepartmental trivia night and the inaugural Student Brain Symposium. These events all provided its members with the opportunity to network, transfer knowledge and establish collaborative partnerships with other early career researchers who, whilst from broad range of departments and scientific backgrounds, were all intrigued by the human brain. In 2012, SOBR continued to bring neuroscience students together with a networking evening held at the Rydges on Swanston, that included prestigious guests including Sophie Scott and the Nobel laureate Prof Peter Doherty, and a Student Brain Symposium held at the Melbourne Brain Centre.

In 2013, SOBR had another successful Student Networking Dinner held in May at the Hotel Windsor with three keynote speakers being Dr Graham Mitchell, Dr Elizabeth Finkel and Dr Christopher Langmead. SOBR is currently organising it's annual Student Brain Symposium which will take place the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences on the 30th of October, so stay tuned as more details are to come.

In the meantime you can find out all you need to know about SOBR through this site, through the Facebook page or by contacting directly sobrnetwork@gmail.com.
